Start with the policy you have
Keep your renewal notice, benefit schedule and underwriting documents to hand. Note who is covered, current exclusions, outpatient limits, hospital access and how the excess applies. Do not send sensitive medical records through an initial website enquiry.
Compare like for like
- Total premium for everyone covered.
- Outpatient, cancer, therapy and mental health benefits.
- Hospital list and specialist selection.
- Each person’s underwriting and exclusions.
- Excesses, benefit limits and additional-child pricing.
Switching is not automatic continuity
A new insurer may offer options to continue some existing underwriting terms, subject to eligibility and its acceptance. It can also apply different benefits, limits or exclusions. Your medical history is not automatically protected just because you switch insurers.
Do not cancel your current policy until you understand and accept the replacement terms and the cover dates are agreed.
Staying can also be a sensible choice
A review may lead to keeping your insurer and changing selected benefits or the excess. Consider the effect of each change on your cover, rather than treating the lowest premium as the only goal.
Begin your review
Start with who is covered, your current insurer and when the renewal is due. An adviser can explain what further information is needed and how to share it securely.
