Age is one part of the picture
Adult ages can have a significant effect on premiums. Hospital options, benefits, postcode and excess also matter. Being over 50 does not mean everyone needs the same level of cover.
Understand medical-history terms
Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded from new personal policies, subject to underwriting. If you already hold insurance, check continuation or switching terms carefully before making a change.
Covering different generations
A family policy does not necessarily allow adult children, grandparents or other relatives to join. Check the insurer’s relationship and dependency rules. Separate policies may be required.
Review value, not only premium
Check the hospitals you would use, diagnostic benefits, excess and exclusions. A lower premium can reflect reduced benefits or a more restricted choice of providers.
